Everyone is welcome to attend the baptism and stay for the picnic afterwards (and swimming!). Please bring something for you/your family to grill and a dish (such as a salad, dessert, snack) to share. Plates/napkins/utensils and beverages will be provided.
Membership at City Church is not a requirement for baptism. All those who have a faith commitment to Jesus Christ and would like to publicly express this commitment are invited to be baptized.
The steps of baptism at City Church are:
1. Complete a Believer's Baptism Form.
2. Once we receive this form, this will prompt an interview with one of the pastors.
*Please note that those being baptized must have completed 3rd grade.
If you have questions about the City Church baptism process, please contact the church office at 612-338-6500.
Why We Baptize
Baptism is an essential part of the Christian’s identification with Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit . . .” (Matthew 28:19).
Baptism is a demonstration of love and obedience.
Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey what I command.” (John 14:15).
Baptism is an outward sign of an inward commitment.
Acts 2:41 tells us about the people’s response to hearing the message of the gospel given by Peter. It says, “Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.”
Throughout the book of Acts, wherever baptism occurred it always followed a profession of belief in Jesus Christ.
Everyone baptized in Acts did so as a public profession of his or her commitment to Jesus Christ. One way to publicly profess our faith is believer’s baptism.
Baptism is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Colossians 2:12 says, “…having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.”
